KIDSPORTS – Q1 2023 GIVE

Q1 2023 GIVE

This quarter we raised a bunch of money for KIDSPORTS!

For those of you who are new to my blog- here’s the run down.  Each quarter I combine my client event with a GIVE to raise funds for a local non-profit.  In addition to my standard quarterly GIVE, I commit an additional $10 for every family that RSVP’s (even those unable to attend!).  In addition, sometimes clients and/or collaborators contribute as well!   My GIVE has evolved over the years, and I now focus on supporting healthy and active youth in our community.

At the event this quarter, I offered guests a bottle of local wine.  We offered tastings if folks wanted to hang out a bit and sample. The wine was sourced from the Oregon Wine Lab – a local urban winery I enjoy.  Interested in learning more about the Oregon Wine Lab?  Check out the link below!

KIDSPORTS is a local organization where all kids play. Bev Smith, the executive director, came to our event to chat about what they are doing to support kids and sports in our community.  I have been so impressed with their services in general and particularly how they were able to pivot during the pandemic and keep kids moving and playing.  If you are interested in volunteering or contributing to this organization, check out the link below!

Kaitlin Ward with Summit Funding agreed to match donations from the RSVP’s including any additional donations as well.  In total we ended up raising $3176!  It is exciting to see our impact grow when we do it together.  If you are looking for a great local lender, check out Kaitlin and her link below!

If you are interested in being part of these events and you aren’t already – let me know!  They are a fun way to connect with each other and with organizations doing great things in our community!

Friends of the Children – Q2 GIVE

Q2 2022 GIVE

Quarter 2 this year brought a fun event in the sun with food carts and raising money for a good cause!  We had a fun event and raised a bunch of money for Friends of the Children / Lane County.

For those of you who are new to my blog- here’s the run down.  Each quarter I combine my client event with a GIVE.  In addition to my standard quarterly GIVE, I commit an additional $10 for every family that RSVP’s (even a no RSVP!).  In addition, sometimes clients and/or collaborators contribute as well!   My GIVE has evolved over the years, and I now focus on supporting healthy and active youth in our community.

This quarter for the event I offered lunch via 2 food trucks: Sammitch and Red Five Hotdog Company.  Both carts were amazing with their food selection, customer service, and fun attitudes.  Sammitch Food Truck can often be found at lunch time during the week downtown.  I’m already thinking how I can incorporate them again into a client event!

This quarter the GIVE was for Friend of the Children/Lane County!  They are a local organization that provides mentorship for kids – committing to 12 years + no matter what.  Wow!  As I’ve learned more about their mission and service I am blown away by their commitment to the kids and their families for the long haul as well as their commitment to the science behind it all. I have recently joined their board and am excited to support them in more ways going forward. If you want to learn more please see the link below.

Blu-inc. Capital agreed to match donations from the RSVP’s and any client donations as well.  In total we ended up raising $3900!  This is the most my GIVE campaign has given in a single quarter and it’s exciting to see it grow!  If you are looking for a private money lender, a new way to invest, or a solution to a tricky financing situation – check out Blue-inc. Capital!

If you are interested in being part of these events and you aren’t already – let me know!  They are a fun way to connect with each other and with organizations doing great things in our community!

FOOD for Lane County – Q3 GIVE

Q3 2021 GIVE – FOOD for Lane County

Happy Fall!  This is my avenue to update you on my GIVE campaign.  Each quarter, I donate a portion of every commission to a local non-profit.  It has been an amazing experience getting to know various non-profits in our area.  Over the past couple years, I have been able to further support our community by donating over $20,000 to local non-profits.

The mission and philosophy behind my GIVE to non-profits is to support health awareness and physical activity for youth in our community. My passion for youth wellness comes from 20+ years of coaching and continues to grow in partnership with various non-profits who support a similar mission. This last year I started pairing my client events with my GIVE.  It has challenged me to GIVE even more and has allowed me to bring more awareness to the non-profits I’m passionate about through education.

This quarter we had a pizza night!  I provided pizza from Papa Murphy’s to my clients and business associates to enjoy a night off from cooking.  For every family who participated, I donated an additional $10 above my standard donation.  A few clients also contributed to the donation!  In total we were able to GIVE $1800 to FOOD for Lane County!

This time we specified Food for Lane County’s youth programs.  Read below about their programs!

Oregon has one of the highest child hunger rates in the nation

Child nutrition is important to every child’s emotional, physical and mental health. Children depend on nutrients to nourish their bodies, provide energy to grow and facilitate cognitive development. FOOD for Lane County manages three programs that provide Lane County children with the food they need to feel healthy and succeed in school.

Children’s Weekend Snack Pack
The Children’s Weekend Snack Pack program provides school-age children in Lane County with a large bag of easy-to-prepare, nonperishable food to eat on weekends or during school vacations.Three Springfield elementary schools participate in the program: Maple, Riverbend, and Two Rivers/Dos Rios. Umpqua Bank provides funding and volunteers.

For more information about Children’s Weekend Snack Pack, please contact Carrie Copeland at (541) 343-2822.

Cereal for YouthCereal for Youth provides nutritious cereal to children and teens throughout Lane County. Schools and youth programs are active participants in this program. They request cereal from FFLC and distribute it to students for breakfast, as a school-day snack or to take home as an afternoon or weekend snack. We distribute hundreds of thousands of healthy snacks through Cereal for Youth each year.

For more information about Cereal for Youth, please contact Carrie Copeland at (541) 343-2822.

Summer Food Program
We invite all children and youth age 18 and younger to eat lunch for free during the summer months. Employees serve meals at schools and community centers located throughout Lane County. Each summer, FFLC serves thousands of lunches and breakfasts to children through the Summer Food Program.

Kids FIRST – Q1 2021 GIVE

For those of you that haven’t been following my blog, here’s what I’ve been up to!  Each quarter, I donate a portion of every commission to a different non-profit.  It has been an amazing experience getting to know various non-profits in our area and partnering with them.  I’ve been able to do this for a couple years now, donating over $20,000 to local non-profits.

The mission and philosophy behind my GIVE to non-profits is to support health awareness and physical activity for youth in our community. My passion for youth wellness comes from 20+ years of coaching and continues to grow in partnership with various non-profits who support a similar mission. This last year, started pairing my client events with my GIVE.  It has challenged me to GIVE even more and allowed me to bring more awareness to the non-profits I’m passionate about through education.

This quarter, I partnered with the Oregon Wine Lab togift my clients a bottle of wine and a real estate trivia game I created myself!  For each family who participated, I donated an additional $10 to Kids FIRST.  If you haven’t been to or tried the wine from the Oregon Wine Lab be sure you do!  They are one of my favorite wineries and local tasting rooms here in Lane County. You’ll find Da-Nang food cart, covered outdoor seating, and they even deliver!  Check them out here: https://www.oregonwinelab.com/   Shout out to Mark, the wine maker/owner, for supporting this event and Kids FIRST!

Supporting kids this quarter took a foundational approach by supporting kids who have been victim of or witness to violent crime.  Kids FIRST does just that!  Their mission is: “to provide intervention and advocacy to children who are victims of, or witnesses to, crime. Children are referred to us directly by our community partners: law enforcement, DHS Child Welfare, and medical professionals. Kids FIRST most often serves children for child sexual abuse, physical abuse, severe neglect, or witness to domestic violence. Approximately 3/4 of the children we serve are under age 12.”  Did you know not all child advocacy centers are accredited?  Kids FIRST is and just went through the process to renew!  They use their leadership and connections throughout the state to assist other organizations through the process to help serve even more kids.

KIDSPORTS – Q4 2020 GIVE

Q4 of 2020 I partnered with KIDSPORTS.  I have been impressed with how during the pandemic they were able to pivot and continue to offer as many services as possible to keep kids and folks moving.  One of the services they offered was a PE class since kids didn’t have in person school.  What a great idea!  They have a new facility that has been able to offer more for everyone in our community including space for some adult league play.

A little more about them from their website: “KIDSPORTS is a private non-profit organization in Oregon that provides youth sports programs for pre-K through 12th graders in Eugene/Springfield and surrounding areas. KIDSPORTS teaches children and families the value of physical fitness, sportsmanship, practice and teamwork through sports and activities….All Kids Play is a cornerstone to our organization. Our programs are open to any child who is able to participate regardless of race, religion, creed, sex, ability or financial status.”

From their executive director, Bev Smith: “KIDSPORTS has been in our community for over 60 years providing youth sports programs to thousands of kids.  Last year, 14,000 children participated in KIDSPORTS programs and we hope to continue to grow.  As we discussed we will allocate funds to our General Federal Free Lunch scholarship and BIPOC scholarship.”  Big shout out to Bev Smith for partnering with us on this!

This quarter I did a pie event with my clients.  I partnered with the local pie company – Mom’s Pies – which are SOOO delicious.  Shout out to Lou Sangermano, from Mom’s Pies, who was great to work with! Check them out at Market of Choice or Dairy Marts in our area. For every family that participated I committed to donate $10.  In addition a couple of families also gave to KIDSPORTS.  In total the donations ended up being $2500!  Thank you to all my clients, business collaborators, and family for supporting KIDSPORTS in our community.  The donation went to their scholarship fund to help more kids be able to participate.  So excited!

First Quarter GIVE

Wow – the first quarter has come and gone.  This year I am donating 5% of each commission to a different non-profit.

I have just done my first quarter give to Emerald Aquatics – www.emeraldaquatics.org.  Check out their website if you want to give to them as well!  Donations help keep the monthly fees down, youth scholarships, and equipment.  They provide swimming for kids and adults and do so while fostering an environment of excellence and personal growth.

This year a new EA award was added.  It’s called the “Dhom Character Award” and goes to the swimmer that exemplifies leadership and our weekly themes at swim team and in their daily life.  Some weekly themes examples include Sportsmanship, Teamwork, Winning and Learning, and Integrity.  This year the first award went to Gracie!! I am so proud of the young woman she is becoming!

So excited to have exceeded my GIVE goal for the 1st quarter!  So excited to be able to contribute to the sport of swimming in this way!  Gratitude and a big thank you to everyone who has walked part of this first quarter with me.  You have helped make a difference in these kids’ lives!

Emerald Aquatics Lap-a-thon

Sunday, February 21 was our annual Emerald Aquatics lap-a-thon.  Last year I decided to swim and raise money for the team I coach.  I did it again this year.  Money raised goes to keep dues reasonable but, more importantly to me, it funds our scholarship program.  We've never had to turn a kid away that couldn't afford to pay.

Swimming definitely brings out the best in me – the joyful and playful side. 🙂

image_3

I ended up beating my goal of 100 laps and swam 120 laps (3000 meters) in 1 hour.  I had two per lap sponsors which I'm sure motivated me to swim more than I would have otherwise!  All of my other sponsors were a flat rate.  Thank YOU to each and every one of my sponsors!   Here's Lottie – one of my high schoolers – who volunteered to be my counter.  Thank you, Lottie!

image_4

It's not too late!!  You can still donate to this wonderful organization at: www.emeraldaquatics.org.  Your donation is tax deductible since EA is a 501c3.  Click on donate, and you can even pick me as who you sponsor.  My personal goal is to raise $2000.  Currently I have raised $1300.  We can still get donors through March 31, 2016.

Thank you for your sponsorship!  We are Grateful!

New Roosevelt Middle School Building

Feels like Spring here in Eugene!  Have you seen the new Roosevelt Middle School Building?

Gina Dhom, Real Estate, Eugene, OR, South Eugene, Schools, home buying

This is the front.  It is really coming along!  I like the style of the building with the mix of brick and modern touches.  Looks like solar panels on the back.  I took these pictures on my walk today.  Looks really overcast but it was actually fairly warm and I even wore sunglasses!  Feels like Spring!

Eugene, OR, Gina Dhom, Realtor, Coach, Roosevelt

Look how green the grass is!!  Feels like Spring :).

Roosevelt Middle School, Eugene, OR, real estate

Can you see the roof?  I believe there are solar panels on there. Cool design!  Can't wait to see the finished product.
